See, ideally it's got to be like this...the fresh breeze hitting your face...gliding effortlessly through the light mist...neatly ensconced in plush convenience..the confidence in knowing that you can ride this through...
Practically...the half-polluted breeze hitting my face...leave alone glide, dodging the potholes was a challenge enough, without the maddening traffic adding to it..and mist..there was no mist..it was blazing hot!! Well, the plush convenience...i was seated on my sister's 6 year-old Scooty..but the confidence in making it through was there.
My sister had gone out of station. Her strict warnings and threats permitted me to take the bike till a particular (pact) point, the drive till which, is not quite the main road. Mum had to go to the post office. I generously offered to drop her. After mum making sure of my intentions to park the bike at the pact-point, we both started the drive.
I had my chemistry practicals...10 mins to go. There was no time to use the public transport. That worked to my advantage..."mum, I am really getting late to college, have no option but to take the bike..bye!!" Yesss!!!! The most-awaited ride of my life! My first on a busy heavy traffic-laden road. I was surprised with the ease with which I could cross the University junction...and the ride was surprisingly smooth..a beautiful, exhilirating and a very confident one!!! I reached college, parked the bike, walked to the the lab, feeling atleast 12 inches taller!! The ride was narrated with oodles of enthusuiasm to some very patient friends.
The return:the elevated ego said it would drop another friend back home. After the successful act of seeming philanthrophy, i set back home, sure, that me and bike will reach home in 1 piece.
Armed with scarf, glares n jacket (circumstance:helmet of my headsize..not available at home), phase2 began. I entered canal road..that road is a pleasure to have the wheels on. On having decided to avoid the 'Deepbangla' chowk and taking a little lane instead, i wanted to cross the road. As its been fed into our brains right from when we were little, i looked left..took in the scene..looked right..looked left again and zoomed forward..WHAM! The front of the bike hit a yellow minibus!!
Aftermath:
- No injuries at all!!! The guard of the bike had to be replaced.
- Thank God, I didn't 'launch the attack' a second earlier than that.
- Did receive a nice sermon.
- Sis(with a glint more intimidating than any cop): Liscense??!
- I hate to admit, the eye shed a drop or two.
- Dad said, "It's ok..No one's born a perfect driver?? Except your dad, ofcourse!!"
